Capacity Building in Andean Communities:Facilitating conservation through organization and collaborationConatura completed a capacity-building program in 2005 designed to strengthen community vicuña management committees and their regional association, ACVIRA (Asociación de Criadores de Vicuña-Arequipa/regional chapter of the National Vicuña Society) Our key strategy in this program is utilizing "participatory management", which entails working with local people as partners. While we impart knowledge on needed technical and entrepreneurial skills, we also learn from communities and develop our workshops and materials in line with their observations and needs. The areas of focus we addressed were:
